Free Video Capture and Recording Software
The software listed on this page allow you to record video from your capture card, video cameras (videocams), webcam, or other video capture devices. The video can then be saved on your computer as a video file. Some of the software here can automatically operate your camcorder, record for specified durations, broadcast (video cast) your video to webcam chat programs, burn your recording directly to DVD, etc. Most, if not all, of these software will be able to use the free video codecs installed on your system to create good quality compressed video files.
Note that if you are looking for a tool to record TV broadcasts from your TV tuner, you may be better off using one of the specialized tools on the Free TV PVR (Personal Video Recorder) and TV Recording Software page.
