A fork (ie, spin-off) of the Open Watcom C/C++ project has been added to the
Free C/C++ Compilers and Interpreters
page. Like the original, this compiler generates code for Windows (16 bits, 32 bits and 64 bits),
Linux (32 and 64 bits), OS/2 and MSDOS. (I assume the fork is because the original Open Watcom project appears to

A modern open source elliptic curve public key encryption program has been added to the
Free Encryption / Cryptographic Software
page. Such programs are usually used to encrypt email. For those who are not interested in encrypting email,
the page also lists other types of encryption programs, such as those that can secure your hard disk so
that even if (say) your computer is stolen, your customer data, credit card numbers, online passwords, etc, will
(hopefully) be unreadable to the thieves.

A new program has been added to the
Free PHP Encoders, Accelerators and Obfuscators
page. This one is a PHP obfuscator that takes your PHP source code and changes it so that it is hard to understand
and modify. Since PHP code is distributed in its source form, such software is useful if you don't want others to be
able to easily read and change it.

Another assembler for Windows and DOS has been added to the
Free Assemblers and Linkers page.
For those who are wondering what "assemblers" are, these are software that computer programmers use to translate
a program written in assembly language into a form that can be run on a computer. (Note that if you are a beginner
wanting to learn to write computer programs, you will be better off starting with
BASIC or one of the
other high level languages.)

Exciting news: the free versions of the PowerBasic compilers have been added to the
Free BASIC Compilers and Interpreters
page, along with a rapid application GUI designer (also free) that allows you to create dialog boxes for your
programs the easy way. These are actually full, earlier versions of the commercial compilers (only one major version behind
the currently sold one) with a huge list of features. They generate native code executables for Windows that
are small and fast. If you want to write computer programs in BASIC (be they games or applications), give these

Another open source program has been added to the
Free Text Search and Replace Utilities
page. Such software can look for pieces of text and replace them with others, and do this across multiple files located
in different directories. (They are handy things for webmasters and programmers to have.) This new addition is a graphical tool
(ie, not a command line one) and works on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and probably others.
